Working on missing followers for recently joined...
If you’ve recently joined Twitter, you may be running into a problem with followers. Specifically, some recently joined folks have reported losing their followers or have reported an inability to be followed. This includes seeing empty followers lists and zeroed follower counts.
We’re actively working on this problem and hope to release a fix soon.
Correcting follower and following counts
For some time, the follower and following counts we display have been incorrect for some folks. We’re soon to push a change that will address this issue. This means that the count you see in your sidebar should match what you see on your follower and following pages.

Avoiding downtime during database work tonight
We have some important database upgrades to make this evening starting at 8:30p Pacific. We’re seeking to avoid any downtime as a result of this work. However, it is likely that users will experience an elevated number of errors for several hours. Other inconsistencies are possible as well.

Sending and receiving Twitter updates via SMS will be unavailable for the next 2 hours due to a planned downtime. We expect full SMS service restoration by 10pm PDT.

Planned SMS downtime for Sprint
Receiving notifications via SMS for Sprint subscribers will be unavailable tomorrow morning (7/14) between 4am and 7am PDT due to planned maintenance. We expect complete service restoration by 11am PDT. Sending updates via SMS will not be affected.
Updated: 10:56am service has been 100% restored.
Working on spurious tweets issue
We’re working through a problem whereby some users are seeing tweets from users they do not follow. This is obviously a significant problem and one we are working hard to address.
We anticipate that it will take several days for us to completely resolve all of the symptoms of this issue. We will update as we make progress.
Working on site latency
Twitter.com has been slow for a good number of people today and we’re working on the problem.
Update (2:36p): We’re seeing improvement and are continuing to work on the residual slowness.
Koobface malware attack
Some users’ PCs have been infected with a variant of the Koobface malware. This malware sends bogus tweets when the user logs into Twitter.
We are currently suspending all accounts that we detect sending such bogus tweets. If we suspend your account, we will send you an email notifying you of the suspension. This email also includes tips for removing the malware from your PC.
Restoring accidentally suspended accounts
Earlier today, we accidentally suspended a number of accounts.
We regret the human error that led to these mistaken suspensions and we are working to restore the affected accounts—we expect this to be completed in the next several hours.
